TOOHEY FOREST PARK

Public BBQ

Toohey Forest Park proves that Brisbane knows how to do green spaces properly. Tucked away in Nathan, this sprawling bushland offers everything from wheelchair-accessible paths to challenging bush tracks that'll have you questioning your fitness regime - and that's just the first few metres. The picnic area delivers the essentials: decent barbecue facilities, proper seating, and a water tap that actually works (minor miracle, that). The signage deserves praise too - clear directions that won't leave you wandering aimlessly like some lost tourist. What sets this place apart is the variety. Families with prams can stick to the easy paths while weekend warriors tackle the harder tracks extending kilometres into proper bush. The Veloway 1 connection is brilliant for cyclists, though the forest paths themselves reward walkers and runners with genuine Australian scenery. Bring bug spray - the mozzies consider you part of their dining experience. But the birdwatching opportunities and native flora make the occasional bite worthwhile.
